As boys are want to do, our boy tends to collect all matter of organic objects. We have a pile of rocks on the front stairs (his collection). 3 sticks under the blue_box (his poke sticks). His cubby at school has leaves, rocks, twigs…you know..stuff.
And today? A piece of wilted lettuce. I knew it wasn’t HIS…I mean, who gives their kid lettuce for lunch? He had pizza like any normal child on a Friday. So…I threw it out.
Why could this possibly lead to a problem.
Here’s a few hints:
1. we live in Vancouver
2. it’s getting close to the chinese lunar new year.
3. McKay’s school is an over_achiever.
4. The word lettuce in Chinese sounds like “rising fortune” or “good luck”.
Ok, so you see where we’re going here?
The Lettuce is seen as the life vegetable… living vegetable brings you life and longevity. Lettuces are left outside for the Lions to eat. Once eaten the lions can spit this back out. To be hit by this eaten lettuce means good luck, brings you wealth and longevity.
Yep…that’s right. My boy was lucky enough to be hit in the head with three pieces of lion chewed regurgitated lettuce at his school’s lion dance today. I think I better go buy a lottery ticket.
