We’re packing again. It’s only been 10 months…this time last year Dan still hadn’t received his Canadian immigration visa, we hadn’t even listed our house yet and we were warm. (GADs it’s cold here).
So ..we did find a place, bigger, further from school, but did I mention bigger? No outside space…but definitely bigger.Movers come on the 2nd, and we leave for Mexico on the 3rd. Things are very very messy around here right now, I’ve packed the kitten twice already. McKay is in heaven because we keep “finding” all the toys we’ve lost over the last year. We’re storing our beach stuff on the stairs to the roof so that we don’t accidentally pack the scuba stuff, or the all important pool noodle. We’re a bit wishy-washy about the new place. It’s pretty ghetto…(not neighbourhood wise, I mean, really, we LOVED the SouthLoop and Kirkwood) but we decided that we really can’t go into debt just because the housing market in this city is crazy. So..no hardwoods for us (ugly grey carpet) and we’re happy to HAVE appliances let alone high end ones (75% of the places we looked at didn’t have dishwashers). A park is near by and we have room to put the garbage can in the kitchen again (instead of on the roof deck filled with yard toys). We’re tentatively optimistic, and only agreed to month to month tenancy so we can always move again (ack) if we hate it.The years between my 4th and 6th birthday my family moved 3 times. I have NO memories of this at all…except my dog “went to live on a farm” before that last move. No memories of packing, or the drive, or unpacking…vague memory of an ugly lime green and pink bedroom that was quickly painted. Hopefully this means we’re not traumatizing McKay too much..although he just about broke my heart last week asking if he could have a tree-house yet and if we could unpack his swimming pool from Atlanta. Erg. Think he’ll still want a wading pool when he’s 9?Housing prices in Ottawa starting to look appealing.
